Understanding HVAC Grille Sizing

HVAC grilles are labeled by the duct opening size, not the outside dimensions of the grille. A grille listed as 20" x 14" is made to cover a 20" x 14" hole in the wall or ceiling. The actual grille itself will be larger so it can overlap the opening and be mounted securely.

How to Measure:
1. Remove the existing grille.
2. Measure the width and height of the duct opening (the hole, not the grille).
3. Select a grille with the same nominal size.
