Understanding HVAC Grille Sizing

HVAC grilles are labeled by the duct opening size, not the outside dimensions of the grille. A grille listed as 14" x 8" is designed to cover a 14" x 8" hole in the wall or ceiling. The actual grille is larger so it can overlap the opening and mount securely.

How to Measure:

2. Measure the width and height of the duct opening (the hole).
